happy things.

As I stated in my last entry, I’ve been extremely preoccupied with that which makes me unhappy. I’ve been focused on society’s problems and, on a smaller scale, my personal problems. So to counterbalance this, I’ve decided to make a list of the things in my life that bring me joy. Click through for the list…

Things that make me happy (in no particular order)

Family. I love them all, even my knuckle-headed cousins. Few things bring me more joy than just being in the company of my family. Hanging in the garage with my father. Running errands for my mother or just talking to my brother. They’re all full of good advice and interesting stories. Truth be told, nothing else on this list would be possible without my family.

My Sister. Though technically family, my little sister stands out for two reasons.

1. She’s actually the only kid that I like.

2. She is the most fun person I know.

Driving. As far as hobbies and activities go, driving is the top. Give me a twisty road and a zippy car and I’m in heaven. Toss in a good song I love everything about driving. Maintaining and modifying the car. Taking the turns. Rowing through the gears. For me, it’s not so much about the horsepower and the speed (which are both very nice, btw), but it’s more abut going wherever I want to go. Driving is freedom. I’d go so far as to say that if it weren’t for speeding tickets and $4.00 gas, I’d never get out of my car. I’d probably sleep in the damn thing.

Sushi. If I had to pick but one type of food to eat for the rest of my life, it would be sushi. You think you know, but you have no idea. I love sushi that much. And if there’s sake involved, fugettaboutit. I’m getting all mouth watery just thinking about it.

Key Lime Pie. Sticking with the food theme, key lime pie is actually my favorite food. The only reason I chose sushi in the previous bullet is because I understand that if I only ate key lime pie, I’d very quickly become sick and fat. That being said, it was still a tough decisions. It might just be worth it.

White Russians. 5 parts vodka. 2 parts coffee liqueur. 3 parts fresh cream. Pour coffee liqueur and vodka directly into old fashioned glass filled with ice. Float fresh cream on the top and stir in slowly. Instant cool.

Music. Music is powerful. A good song can completely change my mood. I’ve been going back and listening to a lot of older music lately. The Beatles have been getting a lot of spins on the ol’ iPod and I’m seriously considering ranking St. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Bang among my favorite albums of all time.

Movies. I love cinema. While I have very little patience/interest in television shows, I can sit and watch movies all day. I’m also a big fan of theaters… even though they’re getting expensive these days. Oh well. Thank God for Second Run (i.e. $2.00) Theatres!

Tetris. I swear, this is the best game ever. Last night, I played a marathon round of Tetris while on the phone with a friend. It lasted over 2 hours, I made it to level 106 and racked up somewhere in the neighborhood of 1060-1070 lines. The game stops counting at 999. By then, I was sleepy so I just let the game end and saved my score.

So I suppose with this information I can say that my ideal day would be: Get up hang out with my family, then take a leisurely drive in the country. Later, I’d catch a matinee and have sushi for dinner with key lime pie for desert. I’d gather with my friends to hang at a bar with good music and sip white russians until it was time to go home… all while playing Tetris. LOL.

I’m glad I did this. At the very least, I figured out what I’m going to do on my birthday next year!
